Introduction, Aria and Dance (2004) (Eb Cor. or Pic. Trpt.,
4 Bb Trpts. (4th doubles Flugel Horn), Tenor Hn. or F Hn., 3 Troms.,
Bs. Trom., Tuba) - This piece was written for the Chicago Brass
Band Players. The introduction had fanfare type figures combined with
an lyrical line over an ostinato. The Aria is operatic with lyrical
outer sections contrasting with a dramatic middlesection. The dance
uses
rhythmic sections of 7/8 and 5/8 contrasting with sections of 4/4 that
contained
tight counterpoint. The tonal language is modal and tonal throughout.
